Carter Bar, the border with Scotland, is just 12 miles up the road which makes Stonyfield Cottage an ideal base for exploring the Scottish Borders and places like Hawick, Kelso, Jedburgh and Town Yetholm.

In the village of Rochester on the A68, about 1.5 mile walk from Stonyfield Cottage, is Camien Cafe, famously the last cafe in England.
